Here is day one, day two will follow later this week.
Enjoy! 😀
  • Planted in the Gospel [Eric Mason – Inner City Philadelphia Pastor] Finding Jesus in Psalm 1
    • 2 Peter 1 1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
    • No matter the desires we have to change in our communities, if we are not seeing the change of the Gospel in our own lives, we will not see change in the people in our communities.
    • V3- God granted us grace through glorifying himself by extending grace to us
      • We are saved by grace to glorify God by looking like Him and making His name known

    • V5-7- Because Gid has done this, practice this in your faith to express your true faith in Christ
      • Virtue – “moral excellence” ability to commit to a moral standard
        • Ability to commit to the standard to follow Jesus
        • Commitment to Gods standards allows you to understand what doesn’t line up and make adjustments
      • Knowledge – “the mind of Christ” to reflect and think like Christ
        • Knowledge about God allows you to set the framework of the standards
      • Self Control – “the leash for our passions”
        • The ability to control our passions in a dark world (like walking a crazy dog)
        • If you don’t have self control in your missions, people see you as a social service and not a spiritual service
        • The character of your mission must always reflect the glory you have in Christ
      • Steadfastness – “consistency in the midst of adversity”

        • Our lives are littered with situations to change us more to look like Him
      • Brotherly Affection – “love of the Brothers”
        • Unity of the brothers for the glory of Christ to imitate Him
      • Love – Missions in the name of Love
        • To share what Christ has done in our lives for the love of others
        • We don’t have to supplement a vision, God has planned the vision already!
    • V8-9- those who don’t posses these qualities, is not a believer. Therefore affirm you salvation by working this out in your life.
    • Knowing Your Calling[Matt Charter]
      • Philippians 3 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith- 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
      • The Primary Calling to Jesus – in our lives is to Christ for Salvation
        • The Gospel will never move in power through your life until the Gospel has moved in power in your life
        • We can do much for Jesus but it doesnt mean anything unless we are walking with Jesus
        • The consequence “to remove your lampstand” – Jesus will remove the blessing from your ministry
          • The last thing I want to do is pastor a church that does not know Jesus
        • Interview Question “When was the last time that Jesus and the Gospel brought you to tears?”

      • The Secondary Calling for Jesus – to ministry work
        • “Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ” = Everything in my life is garbage in the light of the calling that I have in Christ

        • Remember why and how you got there in the first place

      • The way we do church in regards to discipleship
      • The way we should us marriage as a discipleship model
      • Expect to share life with those you disciple
      • Expect them to share what they learn with others
    • The Effective Leader[Francis Chan]
      • The effective leader will constantly abide in Christ no matter how busy life will get
      • The effective leader persists and tries new things always
        • We will always have critics in everything we do
      • God will do great things through you if you are willing to be lonely
        • You feel alone because of the life you are living
        • You are not really alone because God is with you
      • 1Samuel 30: 1 Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire 2 and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way. 3 And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep. 5 David’s two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. 6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.(when David wrote Psalm 40)
        • When times of trial came on David, he strengthened himself in his relationship with God
        • Act like a man be strong and stand firm in your faith. The Lord has taken men through this before.
        • We are a family that is ment to bear each others burdens but we are also called to have intimacy with God and connect with Him
        • We are to challenge all to come to the standard of the Scriptures and encourage them when they do
          • I know you are scared but I am not going to do this for you
        • We all have the opportunity to share with others but most of the time our lives don’t look like Christ
    • How we as a church being the process of ministry of social justice [Matt Chandler]
      • Social Justice- serving those in need to raise and praise the name of Jesus Christ
      • 3 Sins that the Israelites fell into: 1-Idolatry 2-Lack of Holiness 3- Not engaging the needs of the poor
        • Genesis 18:20 Then the LORD said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,
        • Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.
        • Amos 5: 20 Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it? 21 “I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.  22 Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the peace offerings of your fattened animals, I will not look upon them.  23 Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen.  24 But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
        • What did these people do that God would not want to accept their worship? Church attendance is there but righteousness living is not present.
        • We feast on the blessings of God but do not work in the communities. We have no heart to work in the communities that surround us.
      • Matt 22: 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
        • Who is our neighbor? The communities around us, our enemies, the poor and needy that God entrusts us with.
