Join me in the study of 1 Corinthians 15:29-34 as Paul discusses “The Resurrection For Today”!

1 Corinthians 15:29–34 – The Resurrection For Today!

3 Areas Impacted By The Reality of The Resurrection For The Christian.

29 Otherwise what will they do who are being baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are people baptized for them?

1) Our Witnessing

Some were baptized by proxy. <MORMONS>

Repentance & Belief is an individual responsibility.

It cannot be administered by proxy.

Some were baptizing in equality with salvation. <CATHOLICS>

Salvation is an individual’s acceptance.

It cannot be administered be performed on their behalf.

Baptism is a Symbol of salvation. It is not the salvation itself.

The resurrection is untrue therefore why share the gospel, we can just baptize them.

But the resurrection is True! We must share the gospel.

Romans 10:14–17

14 How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?

15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.

16 But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?

17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

30 Why are we in danger every hour?

31 I face death every day, as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus as a mere man, what good did that do me? If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.

2) Our Suffering

What is the point of all this suffering? Because the resurrection is untrue, we can do as we please.

<The American Church>

2 Corinthians 5:10

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

1 Corinthians 3:16–17

16 Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and that is what you are.

33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

34 Come to your senses and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

3) Our Sanctification

Why have self-control? Because the resurrection is untrue, we can remain the same. = Ignorant About God

Christians are called to have self-control because they know

  • That We Have A Purpose In This Life

1 Corinthians 9:24–27

24 Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize.

25 Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown.

26 So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.

27 Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

  • That We Have Victory in Christ

John 14:18–19

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.

19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live too.
