Who is in control?…More insight from Lamentations

As I was going through the book of Lamentations I came across these verses that spoke to me.

Who has spoken and it came to pass,
unless the Lord has commanded it?
Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that good and bad come?
Why should a living man complain,
a man, about the punishment of his sins?
Let us test and examine our ways,
and return to the LORD!
Let us lift up our hearts and hands
to God in heaven:
We have transgressed and rebelled,
and you have not forgiven.
(Lamentations 3:37-42 ESV)

The First statement that jumped out at me was the challenge found in verse 37, who has spoken and it come to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it? The answer is no one. One of the most clear examples of this can be found in the fact that we have just come out of this end times prophecy by one of the contemporaries of today. It is crazy that these “prophets” still do not heed this Word.

But even more than that I find it really sad. Due to this, most brush off the pending judgement of God as a myth. When the truth of the matter is, there will be judgement for the violations of God’s law.

The writer of Lamentations put it this way in verses 38-39,Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come? Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins?” The writer is pointing to the sovereignty of God in this world and our accountability to Him. You see the truth of the matter is, is that we will all face the penalties of what we have done wrong in this life and all the sins of men are seen before His eyes.

But the good news is that we can repent and place our faith in God for deliverance from His wrath. We see that in the following verses Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD! Let us lift up our hearts and hands
to God in heaven: We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.”

This is the ONLY way we to receive salvation from the Lord. To examine the the wrong doings in our lives and return to the Lord by repenting from sin and placing our trust in Him. In His Son Jesus who gave His life as a ransom for many through His death on the Cross.
